Fuel Quota Costing Infrastructure

Ballooning fuel subsidies are expected to interfere with infrastructure expenditures, says House of Representatives (DPR) Energy Commission member Bobby Rizaldi.

The commission member said the infrastructure allocation in the state budget was one of the first to be cut in order to cover deficits.

Because the state budget cannot sacrifice routine expenditures such as employees and bureaucracy [expenditures]. Therefore, capital and infrastructure expenditures are always scheduled for the second term, making them easy to cut or delay, said Bobby contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, January 15.

Therefore, Bobby said the government should improve its monitoring of subsidized fuel distribution. Subsidized fuel distribution must be conducted through a restrictive system by implementing information technology systems, he said.

As long as the distribution system is still open, without control at the depot or gas stations, any controls with not be effective, said Bobby.
